But have you ever gotten up at 4am to milk a herd in February? I covered
for my neighbors so they could escape their prison sentence of 3 milkings a
day, and go on vacation, so I learned from 3 different dairy operations,
first hand. Not just posters, real cows, real milk, real snow, real cold.
And real tests to run every milking. Euro-Clone and Neo-Gen make the test
kits.

permitted by law, and presumed to be safe.

Yes, the LAW allows for it, but co-ops and dairy farmers want to do much
better than the USDA tolerances, and they do. I don't want to get into a
tangent on milk, but here's the most recent scorecard:

http://dairyline.com/wpbackend/?p=5897

"the most recent national survey [of milk samples at the truck level]
finding that only 0.017% of all bulk milk tankers, or 1 in 6,000 loads,
tested positive for a drug residue."

"Any tanker which tests positive for a drug residue is rejected and does not
enter the market for human consumption. The full report is available online
http://www.kandc-sbcc.com/nmdrd/fy-12.pdf "

Note that in the above, they say "Any tanker which tests positive", not "any
tanker testing above the USDA tolerance". Positive means non-zero.

Now, there certainly is a Limit of Detection to any test, but given the flat
statement "Any tanker which tests positive... does not enter the market for
human consumption", and the low incidence of ANY positive test results,
0.017%, I'd say that the diary guys could teach us a thing or two.
