Of course, what is being missed is that the central issue is the effect of neonics on bees, not mammals. No one disputes that neonics are toxic to bees. The question being, are they present in nectar and pollen, and do these produce effects similar to CCD. Which is what beekeepers are contending, in their suit against the EPA. That is what we should be focusing on, not mammalian toxicity, which is low in any case. The acute oral LD50 values (mg/kg) for rats range from 50–60 for nicotine to > 5000 for clothianidin. (Tomizawa and Casida, 2005)
