Don't say that basic facts aren't readily available, Pete, because they are. In "my day", we didn't have the internet. I might have had some sympathy then for those who can't figure things out on their own, maybe they didn't possess books...but now, there is SO MUCH available to read either in print or online that lack of homework is no excuse, IMO, for asking obvious questions here.
