Zach, I've tried a number of ways. Cheapest if you've got the labor is to
place a digital bathroom scale on top of a stack of supers, put a block on
it to hold the hive bottom cleats off of anything, allow it to tare, and
simply have two students place the hives one at a time to weigh.
I now use a digital crane scale, self taring, hooked onto the bee boom of
my truck. The scale goes between the hive cradle and the lifting pulley.
Works like a charm, and very fast and accurate.
