As I'm sure you've heard, the SHA extended their submission deadline to July 15. Carolyn White and myself still have space in our symposium on Exploring Place in the American West. If you have a topic that fits into the abstract attached below, please contact Emily Dale at [log in to unmask] We welcome topics from across the entire American West and across all historic time periods!
ABSTRACT: In its exploration of culture contact, colonialism, labor, migration, and identity, historical archaeology in the American West often emphasizes the role of place. This session sets the idea of place in myriad permutations at the center of analysis. Papers explore place as defined by geography, environment, people, community, ideology, and theoretical approach. In bringing together diverse perspectives on place, the papers make connections around the theme of place, highlighting characteristics that both unite and distinguish approaches to and concepts of historical archaeology of the American West.
