The first thing to come to mind is the Dec. 4 announcement of the "discovery" of the wreck of the San José, but that was not anywhere near Florida.

The University of West Florida has scheduled a press conference to announce a “major archaeological discovery” related to “the history of Pensacola.”  Tomorrow at 10 am.
