Randy and All,
About 20 years ago I left 10 hives at 4,000 feet in the Olympic Mountains for winter. I had 3 that made it in fine shape. I used that as breeding stock. The first generation was ok but nothing special. Then the second generation went into supersedure and hard to manage . It made me think about its ability to survive in nature. So we get trade offs no matter what Man tries to do with the bee.
