Scientists have long wondered how much life can be stripped down and still remain alive. The answer seems to be that the true essence of life is not some handful of genes, but coexistence.

This is a really interesting story that highlights the interdependency of life. In some future trip to Mars, humans will be celebrating our arrival on another planet, but the human visitors won't actually be alone, a complex microbiome will most likely be traveling with them.
