This all sounds like a real headache.

It would be so much simpler if you just used air. Pneumatics and hydraulics both use 'fluids' and the basic principles are just the same, apart from the compressibility of air. 

With air, you could even encourage visitors to connect various bits of tubing and build exhibits themselves: always a great idea...

Do you REALLY want to fill this thing with oil?
