David A. Harrison III Professorship in Archaeology

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Virginia (UVa) seeks to fill the David A. Harrison III Professorship in Archaeology, with a focus on subaltern lives in the prehistoric or historic Americas. The appointment will be at the rank of Professor and will begin on August 25, 2019. Applications from advanced Associate Professors who are ready to be promoted to Full Professor may be considered.

The successful candidate must have active research in the anthropological archaeology of the Americas. Preference will be to a candidate with research in the archaeology of African diaspora, Indigenous American, or historically oppressed peoples. The candidate must possess a proven record of sensitivity to community engagement and outreach in this capacity. Candidates are expected to have a substantial record of scholarship and to have established themselves as prominent scholars with a national or international reputation.

Duties will include teaching four courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate level in consultation with the Department chair. The holder of the Harrison Chair will also be expected to provide service to the Department and University.
