There is some information on plated molds and minimal runs once machine production takes off in an article that I wrote with Antony Pacey that was published in 1985 in Historical Archaeology, Vol 20, (1) pages 38-50.  The article is titled "Impact of Mechanization I the Glass Container Industry:

The Dominion Glass Company of Montreal, a Case Study.  Reprinted catalogs from Whitall Tatum also have information on the cost of having a plate made for plated molds.
