Hi Meg,
I will forward a report on writing slates and slate pencils from the Ohaupo
School Site to your gmail box.
The school burnt down to ground level in 1915. What was left was a
substantial collection of both slates and pencils. There was some site
clearing and a playground and part of a replacement building inserted on
top. (It was not a pristine site and one that was only required to be
monitored. Despite the constraints we did collect some interesting
information.)
The report contains a discussion about slate pencils and references that
may be useful.
Regards,
Alexy
