Spatial History

Assistant/Associate Professor of History, Tenure Track

The Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Technological University seeks a tenure-track faculty member in North American spatial history to join an interdisciplinary social sciences faculty.

The Department of Social Sciences (http://www.mtu.edu/social-sciences/) offers undergraduate majors in history, anthropology, and social science. The department is also home to two graduate programs (Industrial Heritage & Archaeology, and Environmental & Energy Policy), both of which offer MS and PhD degrees. The successful applicant will teach an undergraduate survey course in U.S. History and a course in the use of spatial tools for social scientists, while also contributing to graduate teaching and research. Preferred areas of expertise include the history of industrialization, history of technology, environmental history, social history of industry, or historical geography. Interest in interdisciplinary, collaborative research and expertise in the application of spatial tools to historical analysis are preferred. Ability to contribute to a graduate program in the department essential. The normal teaching load is two courses each semester. This is a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning August 2014; Ph.D. expected at time of appointment.
