The New York Hall of Science, with support from Cognizant, is sharing A Blueprint: Maker Programs for Youth at:

http://dmp.nysci.org/system/files/filedepot/1/NYSCI_MAKER_BLUEPRINT.pdf

Feel free to dl and share with colleagues in and out of the museum community, with families, or with members of your audience interested in growing opportunities for youth to engage in making.

Thanks to NYSCI staff, Cognizant, and the others who worked on this project. Let us know what you think.

Eric Siegel

NYSCI and Cognizant are happy to present this Blueprint. Inside, you'll find resources and inspiration for creating maker spaces, fab labs, tech shops and more, right in your community. The Maker Program Blueprint offers a template for afterschool or summer programs and addresses the types of spaces that can be used, ideas about schedules and format, and the materials and personnel needed to create and sustain a program. Because each community is different, programs will differ too, depending on the budget, facilities, instructors and materials you have available. Whether taking place in a library, someone’s basement or in a school shop, making can be successful in almost any setting. The guidelines offered here encourage flexibility so you may shape a program specific to your needs. Throughout the Blueprint we offer a variety of case studies of successful maker afterschool and summer programs as models that we hope will inspire you to imagine your own maker program.
