ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Hello ASTCers!

We just launched a partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures for their new
movie GRAVITY <http://gravitymovie.warnerbros.com/index.html>, starring
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Sandra Bullock plays the role of an
aerospace engineer, doing some intense problem solving to come back to
earth from a damaged space vehicle. The movie is going to be extremely
powerful in inspiring young girls all over the world to view aerospace
engineering as something interesting and accessible!

We have an online curriculum platform,
www.CuriosityMachine.org<http://www.curiositymachine.org/>,
through which children can submit videos of projects they conduct, that
align with science and engineering research. The completely unique feature
of this platform is that scientists and engineers give children individual
feedback on their projects so that they can redesign and improve and deepen
their learning.

For the Gravity movie project, teenagers are challenged to create a Rube
Goldberg machine rocket that will simulate a space mission and orbit the
earth. (http://www.curiositymachine.org/index.php?r=home/gravity).
Participants will be able to redesign (based on feedback from scientists)
and resubmit as many times they want until the end of the competition - in
keeping with the spirit of real world engineering projects.

The winners will be invited to go to the red carpet premiere of the movie
in New York on October 4th.

How can you be involved:

   - You can run a Gravity Design Challenge for students in which they go
through the first stage of the challenge.
   - Spread the word amongst interested teens and Explainers

you can download and print the following flyer if you want to physically
post something:
http://iridescentlearning.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/gravity-flyer-print-3.pdf

This is time sensitive! There are only 2 weeks left for students to submit
to the challenge.

Contact me if you have any questions!
