The holes of the piece you are holding and the one in the background look very regular suggesting some sort of shaker top or ventilation screen. I would say some sort of decorative lid to something.

Subject: artifact ID
I've got a mystery artifact in need of identification. It's made of a very
thin copper alloy, so thin it wouldn’t hold up to regular use. The object
has some writing. It appears to be made in Vienna and possibly has a Hapsburg
double eagle on it. For context, it was found at the Benedictime monastery and
Freedmen school on Skidaway Island, Georgia, circa 1878-1890. Any guesses?
