Hello everyone,
I was hoping to query everyone's experience and hopefully get some help with identifying maker's marks on two smoking pipes and two spoons.
I'm analyzing a small collection as part of Newfoundland and Labrador Archaeology Society's community collections research project (https://nlarchsociety.ca/ccarp/). The collection is a rather esoteric blend of items from between the precontact period to the twentieth century and there's a couple of items that are proving difficult to identify.
First there is a pair of nineteenth century pipes from Conception Bay on the island of Newfoundland.
One of the pipes has RAOB with buffalo horns molded on the front which I think stands for the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Antediluvian_Order_of_Buffaloes). On the left side of the stem the maker's mark is "Wm. T_" and on the right it is "_TLE." Here's a picture - https://goo.gl/photos/apf5x4hq2JaU2ir48
The second pipe has "TW" on the back of the bowl and on the stem there is an "E_" on the left and "_AD" on the right. There is also a crosshatched heart on the right hand side of the bowl. Here's a picture of that - https://goo.gl/photos/5zVSQGbbacw8bTX7A
Next there is a set of silverware. I don't think these are archaeological, per se, but were rather collected from a house getting restored on the Point de Grave peninsula in Newfoundland. Other silverware I was able to date in this collection are from the late 19th/early 20th century.
The first is a set of four teaspoons (https://goo.gl/photos/NYuREbwin4gsggWWA). On the handles they have a hallmark that appears to be "B" over a flower over "&" over "S" over "H" - https://goo.gl/photos/mvLWRXtvsbXACCEP9 I can't for the life of me find references to this hallmark anywhere.
The second is probably even more frustrating. It's another teaspoon (https://goo.gl/photos/ETrerDTDixuoPoC2A) with the hallmark "BISHOP" on the handle - https://goo.gl/photos/DF8CB8qziCYG7edk6 Again, I cannot find any leads on this hallmark anywhere I look.
Please let me know if you can identify any of these items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
