Try Kristen Ellenbogen at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Before SMM,
Kristen was at the Institute for Learning Innovation;
she led a 5-year family learning research project for me at The Children's
Museum of Indianapolis which used both cued and
uncued situations. We didn't specifically look at impact on learning but I
bet she can give you additional places to look and/or
people to speak to. Members of the Visitor Studies Association do lots of
cued and uncued research.

Hey Scott, is the corollary visitor/exhibit explainer interactions?
Should be a fair amount of stuff in qualitative, social sciences
research, under the rubric of participant selection, but I would guess
you won't find much that is generalizable to museum goers....
