i believe that is where i am, with thanks to you, peter, randy, and others for helping me understand this.

progress can be made when we let the best information available guide us.

unfortunately, as lynn dicks points out in her letter to 'nature', it's more often the hyperbole that greases the wheel, while at the same time jamming up the cogs.
