Hi Dana,
Your fragment is embossed BG with the base of a C -- BGCo. -- on the base of an amber beer bottle, probably an export beer bottle. The logo was used by the Belleville Glass Co. from 1882 to 1886. For a thorough coverage of this glass house, its bottles and marks, see the Bottle Research Group's writeup on the Bottle & Glassmakers Markings page of the Historical Bottle Webpage (SHA site):
http://www.sha.org/bottle/makersmarks.htm
Toulouse was completely wrong about this logo, so don't waste your time.
If you (or anyone else) wants the latest updated information on manufacturer's marks on glass containers, please e-mail me at [log in to unmask] or Bill Lindsey, whose e-mail address appears on the website. We are both retired now and are happy to answer bottle-related questions.
Btw, life on the road in a motorhome is wonderful!!

Subject: Initials on possible 19th century whiskey bottle
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me identify the initials on a possible whiskey bottle found at my site.

I'm honestly not sure if the initials are BG or 8C.....
Thank so much for any ideas.
Cheers,
Dana L Pertermann
