Folks,
The 2012 Midwest Historical Archaeological Conference (MHAC) will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, 6 October 2012. The meeting is being sponsored by the Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) and the Department of Anthropology.
This year, the one-day conference is entitled "Archaeological Insights and Civic Engagement: Learning from Midwest Historical Sites." The session will include formal papers in the morning, with discussion, as well as a round of more general 5-minute lightning talks and posters in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for all participants to share their work, but is a particularly good way for graduate students to present their research interests and even preliminary findings in a low-stress setting.
We look forward to your participation, and have attached a website link to the formal call for papers:

Thanks in advance, and please feel free to distribute this announcement to a wider audience.
Mark C. Branstner (ISAS)
and Dr. Christopher Fennell (Dept. of Anthropology)

"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their
faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving
only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their
cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste
of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to
make plans." - E. Hemingway
