The Arkansas Archeological Survey invites applications for a permanent, full-time
position as Research Station Archeologist to begin as soon as possible. The position is
based at the University of Arkansas Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Morrilton,
Arkansas.
Description: This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The station archeologist will
develop an active research program in central Arkansas, conduct research individually
and in collaboration with other Survey archeologists, publish the results of scholarship in
refereed venues, and obtain external funding to support research endeavors. The WRI
research station archeologist has no teaching obligations, but works with Institute staff to
develop educational outreach programs based on regional archeology and history. The
station archeologist provides support to the Arkansas River Valley Chapter of the
Arkansas Archeological Society. Other Society related duties include participating in the
annual June training program for amateurs sponsored by the Survey and the Society, and
attending the Society's annual meeting in September. In addition, the station archeologist
will provide technical support and advice to federal, state, and local agencies, descendant
communities, and members of the public as requested. Routine station operations include
care of archeological collections from central Arkansas, maintenance of site and project
information for the area, updating existing site file information and recording new sites in
the state database, and supervising one station assistant. The person hired will have a
research faculty title in the Department of Anthropology, University of Arkansas-
Fayetteville and can chair and serve on graduate committees. There is opportunity for
promotion, but Survey positions are not tenured. For information on the Arkansas
