ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Science demonstrations sometimes are seen as poor substitutes for the
related hands-on practical.

I'm passionate about the power of demonstrations to engage the emotions of
the audience and to provoke thought. At their best, demonstrations can be
emotionally engaging science theatre. They have enormous potential to:

- create and sustain interest
- stimulate curiosity
- communicate and share emotions
- reveal phenomena by showing, not just telling
- direct focus
- develop scientific thinking skills, and
- provoke further interaction, thought and discussion.

I've written a paper about the benefits of demos for classroom teachers,
but I think they apply to science communicators too:

So why are demos important to you?

All the best

Paul
