we do, as long as they are plastic and covered and only hold water--not soda or coffee. especially for our outdoor programs, we don't want anyone collapsing of heat stroke or dehydration. makes for bad press.

Subject: Water Bottles on Museum Floor

Hi all,

I have policy-related question on behalf of our Operations Department. Does your institution allow floor staff (guards, museum service staff, docents, facilitators, educators, etc) to carry around a water bottle while on the floor? If so, are there restrictions to when and where they can have water?
Despite good AC, the summer heat in Chicago has necessitated staff to keep hydrated but some have concerns that having water around artifacts and sensitive exhibit spaces could be dangerous.

Thought? Opinions?

Thanks in advance!
