<In the original host A. cerana the reproduction of Varroa mites (V.
jacobsoni and V. destructor) is limited to drone brood for yet unknown
reasons (Anderson 2000; Boot 1996; Garrido 2004; Rath 1999)>
Check the archives, but I believe someone cited that varoa does in fact
infect worker brood as well as drone brood, but like in melifera has a
preference to drone.
Sorry I don't have a citation handy.

There are regions where the two overlap already so I would expect in those
regions there is already varoa traveling back to cerana, though that may
not be the same as what we have here in the US or other regions I suppose..
