Job posting:
Archivist – Operational position in Santa Fe, NM Department
of Cultural
Affairs, Historic Preservation Division (closes March 6)
This message is
outreach: The State of New Mexico Department of Cultural
Affairs has announced
an opportunity to become part of the archives team
at the Historic
Preservation Division during an exciting time of growth
and transition. HPD is
embarking on a project to inventory, make
accessible, and popularize its
holdings related to the architectural and
cultural heritage of New Mexico. Our
new full-time Archivist –
Operational, will work with records that include:
Historic photos,
architectural drawings, cultural histories, records of
historic
buildings, historic and cultural landscapes, archaeological sites,
building rehabs, and public interpretative and public history projects
such
as walking tours and local history and culture publications. While
we have
large holdings of traditional photographic and paper records,
HPD is also
beginning an initiative with born-digital records. Work just
a few blocks of
the historic Santa Fe Plaza, including the state Art
Museum, History Museum,
Palace of the Governors Photo Archive, the main
library, and numerous art
galleries. Other Santa Fe museums in the
Department of Cultural Affairs family
include the Museum of Indian Arts
and Culture and the Museum of International
Folk Art. Full benefits,
including retirement pension (the full benefits kind
like employees used
to regularly have). Non-exempt, and covered by collective
bargaining
unit. Free parking in adjacent structure, or convenient super clean
city
bus service is $20 per month. Opportunity for growth in a setting that
invests highly in professional development and continuing education.
This
position reports directly to our program manager, having all the
benefits of
working for a really excellent supervisor. (I know, I have
the same boss!)
Santa Fe is ranked the top city in the US for clean air
by Time Magazine, Best
Small City in America (Condé Nast Traveler’s
Readers’ Choice Awards), and one
of 10 Great Places to Live by
Kiplinger's. Its high quality of life has been
touted by CNN Money.
Santa Fe provides excellent skiing and year-round outdoor
sports
(hiking, mountain biking, etc), and hosts a number of good time
national
and international events, including the annual International Folk Art
Market (a 21st century convening of the Silk Road
http://www.folkartalliance.org ), the high art Santa Fe Indian Market
(in
its 93rd year), and, in summers, the internationally ranked Santa Fe
Opera.
And yes, Project Runway's Patricia Michaels is from Taos Pueblo
just up the
road. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Archival
Administration and
Public History, History, Archeology, Anthropology or
Library Sciences and one
(1) year work experience in archiving and/or
record keeping. Any combination
of education from an accredited college
or university in a related field
and/or direct experience in this
occupation totaling five (5) years may
substitute for the required
education and experience. The position
announcement is for grant-funded
term. It is what it is. On the other hand,
that's how many of our
positions are structured. In the last three years alone
we've had two
people retire from their grant-funded term positions with full
benefits.
The official announcement and online application are available at
http://agency.governmentjobs.com/newmexico/default.cfm?action=viewJob&jobID=1084606
. Closes this Friday 03/06/15 11:59 PM Mountain Time. Please read
carefully
the website's instructions about how to calculate job
experience. You may wish
to use the online Experience Calculator
(http://www.spo.state.nm.us/State_Employment.aspx ). Accidental
overestimation of job experience time requires disqualification of an
application, so as with any government application site, please check
all
instructions carefully. Contact info for further questions is
included in the
posting. Thank you for looking and good luck! Anna
