_Post-Medieval Archaeology_, Europe's leading journal of historical archaeology, is looking to appoint three new volunteer assistant editors to join our growing international editorial team.

The primary duties of the assistant editors are:
1) Management of the peer-review process for submissions, as assigned by the journal editor
2) Serving as the primary point of contact for authors of submissions assigned to the assistant
3) Checking and editing of the formatting of submissions assigned to the assistant (but not detailed copyediting of submissions, which is undertaken separately)

The journal hopes to appoint assistants from both the Americas and Continental Europe, alongside a new assistant from Great Britain and Ireland, in order to help manage our international submissions. The journal is in the process of moving to a new online submission system that will help streamline the review process.

Ability to speak or read one of the four languages that Post-Medieval Archaeology's summaries/abstracts are translated into (French, German, Spanish, and Italian) would be an advantage, and Spanish would be a particular advantage for any candidates in the Americas, but is by no means required.

Past academic editorial experience would be a strong advantage, and candidates with past editorial experience will be preferred. However the editor will consider candidates without extensive editorial experience (including doctoral students) who can provide a reference confirming their reliability, eye for detail, and ability to work to a deadline.

It is anticipated that the next editor of the journal would be appointed from the pool of assistant editors (though stressing that the present editor has no plans to step down).

The editor hopes to fill the positions by the 1st of January 2015.

Potential candidates should contact journal editor Alasdair Brooks at <[log in to unmask]> for more information.
