There was an article on the problem that few people document them in a
recent book called "Reconsidering Fieldwork."
Jones & Richardson reference a ppaper in "Water management in the English
landscape" (Edinburgh, 1999): "Arable land drainage in the early nineteenth
century." Might have some useful references.

Has anyone done any research on agricultural drainage tiles? How much of an
agricultural field is disturbed from the installation of drainage tile?
Are/were the tiles installed at an average depth? Does anyone know of any
reference material on this topic?
