Call for Papers

Thinking Outside of the Dig Box: Revitalizing the

Public's Role in Archaeology and Preservation





Paper and poster abstracts are requested for the upcoming 3rd Annual Charles Towne Landing Archaeology Conference, scheduled to take place at Founders Hall on Saturday, February 16th, 2013.



Cultural Resources professionals today, find themselves relying more than ever on volunteer participation to carry out projects. Many have seized this new challenge as an opportunity to build, maintain and enhance public archaeology and preservation endeavors.



This year's theme focuses on exploring the innovative methods used to enhance the public's role in archaeology and preservation. Examples of relevant topics include public archaeological projects, oral histories, folklife studies, anthropological fieldwork, historic building preservation, and cultural landscape preservation.

In keeping with the theme of public participation, we are looking for papers that are written and presented with the general public as the primary audience.





Abstracts for papers: Maximum 300 words, including the title, the name of the presenter and affiliation. Submissions from graduate students and advanced undergraduate students are encouraged (please state if you are a student).



Abstracts for posters: Maximum 300 words, including a list of proposed graphics and images, the size, the title, the name of the presenter and affiliation. Sample images or a draft copy of the poster may be submitted as supplementary material. Bulletin boards and/or easels will be provided. Entrants will be responsible for printing their posters.

A preliminary program will be announced on January 11th, 2013.
