The
Department of Archaeology and Landscapes at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar
Forest seeks to hire the position of Archaeology Laboratory Analyst.
Poplar Forest is the retreat home and plantation of Thomas Jefferson,
located in Bedford County, Virginia. This is a full-time temporary
position with benefits. The position runs from May 1 to December 31,
2014. Applicants should be able to commit to the full length of this
time frame. Depending on funding there is the potential for the position
to continue after December 31. The successful candidate will work in
conjunction with the Archaeology Laboratory Supervisor to catalogue and
analyze late eighteenth- through twentieth-century artifacts and assist
with the curation of the archaeological collections.
The
successful candidate must possess significant experience with
identification, analysis, and cataloguing of historic period material
culture in the mid-Atlantic, particularly from the nineteenth century.
The candidate should also possess strong communication, organizational,
and computer skills. Individuals with experience with RE:Discovery
databases are strongly encouraged to apply. At minimum, a B.A. in
anthropology, archaeology, or a related discipline is required.
The
salary for this position is $13/hour. The work week is 37.5 hours per
week. Benefits are provided as a percentage of salary that can be
allotted to health and dental insurance and retirement.
