<<Colony sizes tend to be smaller and Africanized honey bees will
use a wider variety of nest sites, including smaller nest cavities,
such as water meter boxes.>>
<<We obtained data on Africanized honey bee colony removals from water
meter boxes>>
<<In areas with Africanized honey bees,
the feral population is primarily Africanized.>>
The study is assuming a heck of allot.
Any survey comparing EHB populations to AHB populations
which is restricted to smaller voids such as water meter
boxes will naturally show a prominence of AHB genetics,
because EHB are less likely to be found in these voids,
having greater preference towards larger voids.
The study is simply not an accurate reflection of the
feral population as a whole. And they cannot say
that the feral population is primarily Africanized
based on a narrowly focused survey restricted
to meter boxes.
If a variety of different sized voids were sampled,
then it would be worth something, as it sits now,
the only value would be to the meter man. IMO
