ARCS gives science writing scholarships in Northern California.

If the Minnesota chapter isn't currently funding one, they might be 
interested in doing so in his case.

I strongly recommend that the student try to attend the upcoming 
National Association of Science Writers meeting in Flagstaff, in 
October. There are travel scholarships for those in need and student 
memberships, workshops for learning, and people to meet. I can 
probably put him in touch with a meeting mentor.
