here in san diego, this was used also as the border fence with mexico, prior 
to our new triple border fence installed some years ago

These are interlocking panels used during WWII to create landing strips. 
Generally used in the Pacific Theater during the Island hopping campaign. 
The metal fabric was placed over a prepared dirt runway. I have seen entire 
cattle pens made of this. Size of panels about 2 ft by 6 ft.
