If fed, the bees should keep their strength and even build up. You might consider pollen substitute, too. The main thing is to avoid opening them up during the day. Just before dark or even at night is much safer.
By the way, open feeding of pollen sub is fine, but I think open feeding of syrup is penny wise and pound foolish. We are all of us facing drought this year so we have to stick together and share success stories.
