Potency of spores will deteriorate over time and under various

AFB spores are in the same family as Anthrax which has a 'half life' of
about 50 years! Here in Dorset (UK) George Vickery, a bee farmer,
deliberately as an experiment, illegally melted comb from an AFB infected colony
instead of burning it, and made foundation which he used. He closely monitored
the hives in which the foundation was placed and found no re-occurrence of
AFB. From this he concluded that a coating of wax comes between the AFB
spore and the larval chemical that stimulates it to revive and multiply.
