Yes we did and we collected mites every 7-10 days for 45 days. Our results showed evaporation of 2 times Oxalic acid; 15 days apart yielded 93%. One treatment yielded 60%. There was some brood in the hives that might made a difference.
Regarding opening hives and impact on survivorship, I am just old fashion. If I don't need to disturb my bees I would not do it. In research we have to open hives, but we keep it to minimal.
It is good idea to test just opening hives in winter vs not. It might be tricky. Medhat
