There is an extensive document (in French) from the national Natural History museum about the expansion of this hornet, including a map showing the situation at the end of 2010 and another showing the possible future expansion.

For the moment there is no way of trapping it other than the traditional trap, home made or bought, baited with beer, honey, blackcurrant syrup and vinegar. The nests are rarely destroyed because, at present, the choice of destruction is left to the landowner and can be very expensive. There has been an increase in the number of deaths caused by these insects so the idea of encouraging children to collect them by offering a bounty is probably not one to pursue.
