That is true, but that does not mean that varroa cannot reach dangerous
levels in one season, especially if the parent hives were above threshold.

I split fairly drastically, but still found myself with hives at 11% as
measured by alcohol wash at the end of August.

Although splitting is a known control measure, it cannot be assumed that
splitting will result in varroa below threshold at the end of summer.

Those who worry about such things should confirm varroa levels by actual
measurement from time to time.
