ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

My two favorite sources for obscure reasons to celebrate a given date are Wikipedia and Chase's Calendar of Events (http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780071766722-0). They cover all sorts of stuff, not just STEM, but also lots of famous birthdays and weird food holidays.
I've found most websites that list a few weird holidays got them from Chase's.
On Wikipedia, though, I learned that today (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_19 ) in 1977 is the only day in recorded history that it snowed in Miami, Florida. And it's the birthday of James Watt, Edgar Allan Poe, Janis Joplin, and Frank Caliendo.
