Is anyone aware of research focused on civilian or military (informal) modification of weaponry and/or ammunition into tools of other sorts (for example, kitchen or construction). The general chronology would be pre 20th century and most specifically the mid 18th century until just after the American Civil War. I am open to information coming from both rural and urban and free and enslaved contexts.

Thanks,
