Has there been a publication about the introduction of varroa into the
US, in a historical sense? I'm new enough to have never known of the
great before time. Perhaps there's a more general book out there,
like a history of American beekeeping 1970-2010 or so? I'm interested
in the people, the policies, the events and the reactions.
It's inevitable that there will be more parasites/shocks to US EHB
introduced in the future ("Tropilaelaps mites, Apis mellifera
capensis, Apis cerana, and LOTS more that I don't know about" to quote
a local master beekeeper who didn't know he would be quoted). On a
related slant, I'm wondering if there's a post-mortem out there
talking about what happened in the past (eg 1980's?), and how we might
learn about what we did right/wrong as we go forward in beekeeping.
Is there any required reading? Or is the book waiting to be written?
Best,
Blair
