Braula coeca, the bee louse, used to be very common but I haven't seen
it in England since we started treating for Varroa 20 years ago. I did
see one in Eire in July 2000 and thought for a second that I had made
the discovery of Varroa for the first time on that part of Ireland. It
could well be extinct on the mainland but I suppose it could be
re-introduced on imported bees.
