I do remember the day when I was in a beeyard on Rosebud Creek. The yard
was mean - there were some survivor colonies from the old Baton Rouge
experiment that resulted in the first CCD - presumably due to the African
genetics. My first experience with AFB behavior, nasty as any I've seen in S.
America, Texas, or Southern CA.
Then I found a rattlesnake under a pallet with marked hives that I was
repeatedly sampling, so I had to remove the snake. He wouldn't come out, so I
had to 'stretch' to lift off the hives. As I was pulling the hives, I
ran into several black widow spiders between the beehives. Finally got
hives off, avoided the spiders, and was able to turn over the pallet and remove
the snake.
After I finished sampling that pallet, I quit for the day.
