Dear Stephan, Can't you just keep a few colonies queensless (breaking their cells) and well fed? These will retain some drones for sure. Enough colonies to supply you with the dozens of drones you need. Some colonies hold on to their drones much longer than others, you will find more drones in mediterranean type bees brought up North, buckfast like bees often. all the best,Lennard
