> 45% of beekeepers who were stung <25 times a year had a history of systemic sting reactions, compared with no allergy in those with >200 stings per year
I am beginning to wonder whether my breeding programme which includes selecting for docile bees is such a good idea! A few years ago I counted every sting for a whole season - this was so that I could give a precise answer at fetes etc when the first question is always 'do you get stung often?' I was able to answer '238 times last year': this produced a horrified reaction and there was no further need to justify the price of my honey!
Now I can go for weeks without a sting, and most of those that I get are due to carelessness on my part when I trap a bee.
So far no sign of any allergic reactions - touch wood.
Best wishes
