I have done a little B.t. toxicity work with SHB in the past using the isolated Cry3Bb1 protein and the biopesticide Novodor (Valent U.S.A.), which contained Cry3Aa. There is some documentation of toxicity of these B.t. kumamotoensis and B.t. tenebrionis (respectively) against a wide spectrum of Coleopterans. Unfortunately, I saw very little mortality in SHB with either of these products from 1st instar through adult. I did not look at fecundity of adults.
B.t. aizawai is effective against Lepidopterans, but probably not against SHB because of the difference in gut pH of these two insects. Then again, there are non-target sublethal effects arising in B.t. toxicity studies that need a closer look.
