>Maybe the almond growers should underplant with a range of wild flowers

honeybees.
What!
That is already the problem in many eastern orchards where dandelions,
clover, henbit, yellow rocket and other bee-attractive flowers live in the
understory of orchards, where pollinators are drawn and killed by the
routine pesticide use intended for the trees, but also falling on the
understory!
Planting bee-attractive plants among the almonds would be a major disaster.
