RESULTS
A total of 34 wells were sampled in 30 sections in Monterey, San
Benito, San Luis Obispo,
Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties with no reported detections of
imidacloprid, imidacloprid degradates, or pesticides on the “triazine
screen.” Results from the samples received during the course of the
study were all negative for pesticide residues. Imidacloprid use for
the years 1996─2003 and the locations of wells sampled for this study
are shown in Figures 1 and 2.
None of the 34 sampled wells tested positive for imidacloprid despite
being located in high use areas, some with very shallow depths to
ground water. Four of the sections sampled were a GWPA. Similar
results were obtained in a GWPL monitoring study conducted in 2004, in
which 33 wells were sampled for imidacloprid (Weaver and Nordmark,
2004).
