Does anyone have anecdotal advice on what to
do or how to avoid future outbreaks? I am particularly interested in
resistance or tolerance.

Antibiotics will provide temporary relief but reinfection will soon occur
through young bees cleaning up the mess with their mouthparts and then going
on to feed the babies. They need to be shaken onto foundation/ starter
strips/ disinfected comb as soon is possible, depending on your location, in
order to break the cycle.

The old comb should either be destroyed or disinfected before re-use by
whatever method is effective and available where you are. Here, in the UK,
exposure to the fumes of concentrated acetic acid is recommended.
