At UNC, we've been using Agisoft Photoscan for the last few years to create
3D models - personally I think these models using photos come out better
than laser scanning (at least what I've seen), plus they don't require as
much investment in terms of money. Here is the RLA's sketchfab page so you

Steve Davis has been spearheading this, working with some pretty awesome
